My first encounter was flipping channels at Pete's house and somehow stopping on a broadcast of The Single File and being completely captivated. Not long after that, Hounds of Love was released and I bought it straight away and instantly fell in love. I quickly bought up all the albums previous to that and was firmly on the bandwagon. Happy 30th anniversary to Jellyfish's Spilt Milk, originally released 9 February 1993, one my all time faves. A sparkly monster of a pop album, it's a kaleidoscope of ideas and influences but doesn't sound like any one thing except itself (if that makes any sense). It's like if Queen, The Beach Boys and The Beatles all mutated into one organism (a jellyfish!). I had gotten into them with their first album, Bellybutton. I really liked that one, so I was in on Spilt Milk on day one. It's been with me all these years and will be til I die....

I read a piece today marking the tenth anniversary of My Bloody Valentine's m b v, which is the long-awaited follow-up to their legendary album, Loveless. Loveless came out in 91, so there was a good 20-something years in between the two albums. Loveless is one of my fave albums and when m b v was announced, I caught the fever and was one of those people that helped crash the website trying to order a copy.
