m b v

I read a piece today marking the tenth anniversary of My Bloody Valentine's m b v, which is the long-awaited follow-up to their legendary album, Loveless. Loveless came out in 91, so there was a good 20-something years in between the two albums. Loveless is one of my fave albums and when m b v was announced, I caught the fever and was one of those people that helped crash the website trying to order a copy. In any case, I was a bit underwhelmed when I finally got a hold of the record. I liked it but I didn't...
Come Get Your Wife

Came across Elle King's Come Get Your Wife the other day. The description sounded interesting enough, so I clicked play and listened. And liked it. And kept listening until it finished. Then I started it up again. Solid country/pop fun. The kind of thing you'd sing along with at the top of your voice while driving down the highway with all the windows down on a warm summer day. And that album cover is so great, I love it. Give it a spin, maybe you'd like it.

Tove Lo just posted this superb version of Call On Me, from her Dirt Femme album which came out just this past fall. Check out the album, it's well worth a listen or three, and click play on this stripped down version below these words I've typed right here. I came across the Sugar Stems' I Gotta Know early on in lockdown via random searches. Their album, The Sweet Sounds of the Sugar Stems, was already ten years old at that point but it still sounded fresh to me. This song is a breezy gem; perfection in simplicity. Guitars, bass, drums, a few chords and super catchy hooks. I bet it'd be a blast to see them play live. Listen below. The band appears to be defunct but their Bandcamp page is still active, check it out if you wanna support.

Cristin Milioti is one of my fave actresses of late, I try to watch anything she's in. She always seems to be in these quirky, sort of unconventional roles. Palm Springs, Made for Love and The Resort pop into my mind. I first became aware of her in the cast soundtrack of David Bowie's Lazarus, she sings lead for Changes and Always Crashing in the Same Car. She seems like she's just a theater kid who found her way into some great successes. Last year I found out that she did a gorgeous cover of Bon Iver's 715 Creeks and...
