I never listened to The Gits back in the early 90s when they came up. I had heard the name, I think Kurt Cobain had championed them back then, but not the music. But yeah, I hadn't listened until now. Recently, news of The Gits popped up into my feed, as their albums had just been remastered and rereleased. "Why not?" I thought to myself as I clicked play on the newly remastered first album, 1992's Frenching the Bully.

Enter: The Conquering Chicken by The Gits (Album, Punk Rock): Reviews, Ratings, Credits, Song list - Rate Your Music
Midway through the first song, my reaction was pretty much HOLY SHIT WTF TOOK ME SO LONG. After that album ended, I immediately put on the second one, Enter: The Conquering Chicken. Halfway through the second album, I'd thrown together a playlist of those two album and a couple compilations that had also received the remaster treatment (Kings & Queens and Seafish Louisville).
Then I started reading about the band and found out about the absolutely devastating loss of the singer, Mia Zapata. I'm not going to go into it here, but the information is out there if you want to look it up.
Live at The X-Ray | The Gits
Yesterday, I found a live album (The Gits Live at The X-Ray) and it's really fucking good. And I know I'm late by a couple lifetimes (and kinda upset with myself about it), but this band should have been huge in a just world. If you like any sort of punk or rock music, do yourself a favour and look them up.
