I watched Back to Black (2024) recently. It kinda made me sad, thinking about Amy, but I felt like it softened the edges of her story, her addictions, and her demons. Also, from what I know, her father is a complete shit. But here, he's supportive and saying things like "that's my Amy!" and whatnot. It doesn't align with what I know, so I feel like someone is taking some liberties here. I feel like if you want to watch something about Amy, you'd be better served by watching the 2015 documentary titled Amy. This one, I don't know, it's a dramatization biopic. It didn't feel right to me.
In the aftermath of the 2015 film, I remember the dad was so upset at his portrayal. He kept saying that he was gonna put out a movie that would depict the "real" truth, whatever that was. So maybe he had a say about his portrayal in this new movie, I don't know. But if you watch the doc, he's an exploitative and manipulative piece of shit, which seems closer to reality from what I know. But, you know, I'm just some guy who likes the music. So, if I had to recommend, I'd say go with the 2015 documentary and skip this one.
