Queensrÿche - Operation: Mindcrime

blog life without algorithms metal music queensrÿche vinyl

One of my fave metal albums, Queensrÿche's Operation: Mindcrime (1988). I picked up this reissue a few years ago. I get obsessed with this album every so often and this week has been one of those weeks of listening to it at least once a day. It's a concept album about a heroin addict slash radical who is brainwashed into joining an anarchic group. It all goes downhill from there, as you can imagine. But, we get a pretty great album out of it. I'm gonna keep listening to it until I'm not, and then I'll come back to it...

Corn Queen

Really liking this new Hailey Whitters album, I just went down to my local last night and picked up a copy (on pink vinyl no less!). I discovered her when her second album, The Dream, was released right around the start of the pandemic. I think I listened to that album every day for at least 6 months. Primavera 2025

blog festivals life without algorithms music primavera sound

Planning for this year's edition of Primavera Sound was pretty mundane, thankfully. Last year, I wasn't sure about anything due to, you know, circumstances. I did, however, end up being able to book a last minute flight and make it. This year was smooth, and the festival was a riot.  First off, like every festival, you start with the headliners. And what a trio it was. The Powerpuff Girls. Chappell (Blossom), Charli (Buttercup) and Sabrina (Bubbles). These are three of the top tier Pop Girls of right now. They're all different vibes, but I enjoyed each one.  We saw La...

Cruel World

Made it out to Cruel World last week. It's in its fourth year, I believe, this was my first time. I bought the ticket because Til Tuesday was on the lineup. Believe it or not, I saw Til Tuesday decades ago, opening for Rick Springfield. I went to that show specifically to see them. After they broke up a few years later, I became an Aimee Mann fan and have been for all these years. So, yeah, I was super interested in seeing Til Tuesday here in 2025 and I got exactly what I hoped for.  But I also got...

June Mix: Possible RomCom Film Soundtrack

blog life without algorithms mixtapes music

Getting this one in a few days early thanks to the long weekend. This is the second to last of the Possible Soundtracks. The previous ones are sci-fi and horror, check previous posts if you're interested those. Again, pretty simple; romcom-y type songs in my head that might work. Some you might know, others you might not. I think it all flows pretty well. Enjoy!
