Random Record Store Pickups

blog life without algorithms music record stores records

Had lunch with a friend yesterday in a nearby town (Albany) that I'm not very familiar with. Afterwards, she pointed out a record store that was a block away (Strictly Vinyl in Albany), so we dipped in. A teenage girl and her father walked in to exchange a Steely Dan record (Gaucho) that had a skip or something. I thought this was for the dad, but it was for the daughter! She went to the racks and was pulling out stuff like Dylan, Springsteen and The Beatles. Clearly the dad had been raising her on a classic rock diet and she was very into it. She was asking him which Dylan titles he had. Then she pulled out a Beatles compilation (Blue Album 1967-1970) and declared it would be the one she's walking out with. Dad says it's just a compilation, why would you want that. She replies dad, the goal is to get all of them. Dad kinda just shrugs in agreement, knowing he created this beast.

You tell him, kid.

I ended up picking up a couple King Crimson albums, Three of a Perfect Pair and Beat. Great little shop.
