Record of the Week: The Dead Weather - Horehound

Welcome to the Thanksgiving edition of Record of the Week. This week, the Randomizer serves up The Dead Weather's Horehound, released on Third Man Records in 2009. This is the copy in my collection that I'll be listening to. As far as Jack White non-White Stripes projects go, I think The Dead Weather might be my favourite. Alison's vocals really do it for me. She sounds aggressive and venomous; like a cobra poised to strike. Side note, I do love the Stripes, but I think I'd love them more if there were more Meg vocals. Jack's vocals show up here occasionally, but Alison is the star on the Dead Weather records.

This album really does it for me. It's just raw and mean. The aural equivalent of a knife fight in a phone booth (if anyone remembers phone booths). Mental note: need to update my cultural references. In any case, The Dead Weather put out two albums after this one: Sea of Cowards (2010) and Dodge and Burn (2015). All worth it as far as I'm concerned. There's also a live album out there as well (Live at the Mayan), but maybe not as essential. However, if you're interested, just start at the beginning with Horehound. If you're any kind of White Stripes fan, I think you'll dig this.
